A 3 Days of Creating Your Best Travel Images

Three Day Photography Workshop with a Difference

Maximized for a Northern Thai Cultural Photography Experience

The best travel photography happens with technical expertise, creative intent and an inquisitive nature. And the right opportunities. This is what you’ll experience during our Three Day Photography Workshop.

We have designed our 3 day travel photography workshop to engross you in a visually stimulating northern Thai cultural experience. Photographers of any experience level can come to improve their skills and creative intention. You must bring along your own inquisitive nature.

Kevin Landwer-Johan is the workshop leader. He will build your confidence in your camera skills. He’ll also guide you in shaping and sharpening your creative intent.

Cultural photo opportunities are in abundance during this 3 day workshop. Many are off the beaten track and unique to our photography workshops. Capturing the most stunning travel photographs in northern Thailand is the focus of our time together.

We are happy to run this workshop with just one to four participants and are flexible with the dates. One of the days must include a Saturday or Sunday for us to be able to photograph at the rural markets. (Please contact us if you have a non-photographer partner who would like to join you.)

3 Days Photographing Northern Thai Culture

This unique 3 day photography workshop gives you opportunity to photograph people and places you won’t find on regular photo tours. During this time Kevin’s focus is on helping you develop the photography skills you most want to improve. He will also guide you as you explore your creative intent and continue to develop your photographic style.

Groups are small, with a maximum of four people. Kevin  has over 30 years  professional photography experience and he’s very capable of conveying his experience in a meaninglyful, easy to understand manner.

Locations are varied and diverse in and around Chiang Mai, Thailand. You will learn and/or reinforce photography techniques with on-site tutoring.  Or you are free to photograph and enjoy the sessions without teaching. Photography related questions are always welcome. As time allows there will also be optional image reviews. These will focus on how you can improve both technically and creatively.

Three Day Photography Workshop Outline

This workshop is spread over 3 days and includes 3 nights with the aim of being encouraging and inspiring. Accommodation is at our bed and breakfast. We will meet Chiang Mai, Thailand on the morning of the first day.

Our itinerary includes a session with beautiful Thai model in a traditional costume and with an elephant. Photographing a model and elephant together is full of surprises, challenges and stunning results. This is a must have fun and unique travel photography workshop experience.

After this session with the model and elephant we’ll remain in the Karen village to photograph the local people. This is a traditional mountain village full of wonderful photography opportunities.

This village provides the best opportunity to photograph northern Thai ethnic minority people. Here they wear traditional clothing and live in customary homes. Our relationship with them means they are relaxed, so you will get better portraits of them. The more you engage with these people the more people will engage with the photos you make. If you are not sure about visiting this type of location, please take a look at this article on the subject.

We also visit rural areas for landscape photography on Thailand’s highest mountain, located near our home. Here you’ll learn more about developing your natural eye to ‘see’ a photo. There’s also opportunity to dig deeper into the technical aspects of how to best capture the beauty you see.

We spend a morning at the rural weekend markets. Here we find ourselves among hundreds of locals buying everything from livestock to fried rice.

We’ll spend an afternoon in a Karen village making portraits in Kevin’s natural light outdoor studio. During this session you’ll isolate people against a plain background without them having to leave the comfort of their home village.

Testimonials

I cannot say enough good about Kevin. There are a lot of amazing photographers in this world, but not many are truly exceptional teachers. Kevin truly know how to put the art of photography and the technical aspects of the camera into the right light for each one of his students. He certainly did so for me. I’ve been traveling for 9 years now and have been a self taught mature photographer for a good majority of that time. I was looking to step my craft up a few notches but just couldn’t seem to get past a certain level. I knew I was grasping all that my camera could do, and the frustration of not being able to capture a shot just the way I wanted it was beginning to kill my creativity. Then, along came Kevin. He was the key to unlocking the magic! Answered so many questions and inspired so many more, then gave me the answers with hands on experience. I’m inspired all over again. Thank you Kevin!!!
Kevin and Pansa introduced me to the local life in Chiang Mai, which allowed me to feel more comfortable in approaching people in the markets and later with the hill tribes. Along the way I was learning from a well respected professional photographer, who showed excitement for my photography as well as any photo opportunity that came our way. I look forward to my next journey with Kevin and Pansa, where we can create an even more special adventure over a few days. I don’t normally write reviews so this was special for me and I am sure it will be just as special for you.
